Protheses

Dental prostheses make it possible to replace one or more damaged or missing teeth in order to restore appearance, occlusion and chewing ability.

The type of prosthesis chosen will depend on various criteria to make sure to find the most appropriate solution.

Removable dentures

Removable dentures can be put in and taken out at will. They may be partial or complete :

  • Removable partial dentures only replace particular teeth and are placed on the gums and the remaining teeth.
  • Removable complete dentures replace all teeth on the jaw and simply rest on the gums.

In some situations, complete dentures may be fixed to the jaw with the aid of dental implants. In this case, the dentures can still be removed thanks to a system of push buttons but they are much more stable and comfortable.

Fixed protheses

As the name suggests, these dentures are fixed to the jaw and stay in for several years. There are a number of different types of fixed dentures :

If one tooth or part of a tooth is missing, we can consider placing a crown or applying an inlay or onlay :

  • A dental crown replace the whole visible part of the tooth. It caps and consolidates the whole tooth.
  • An inlay replaces a small part of the tooth whereas an onlay is a partial dental crown.

If one or more teeth are missing, in some cases to be analysed with you by your dentist, it may be preferable to replace the tooth or teeth by a bridge. The bridge is attached with the help of the adjacent teeth or dental implants :

  • Bridge on natural teeth
  • Bridge on dental implants
